Finding a Hair Stylist While on a Budget

Finding a Hair Stylist While on a Budget

If you are like most people, you know that you should be taking care of your tresses, but may not be able to spend a lot of money. You shouldn’t ignore your hair health just because you are on a tight budget, but many people do. However, you can still find a stylist that will be able to help you, even if you cannot afford a $300 haircut.

Research

You’ll likely find yourself doing a lot of extra research because you’ll want to determine prices, which can be difficult. Most salons don’t offer their pricing online, preferring that you call in or come in to find out. Therefore, you’ll need to do some online research and some over the phone to ensure you’re getting what you need for a price you can afford.

Once you know what’s available and the prices, you can sit down and determine what you can afford. Keep in mind that styling chains will be the least expensive, but won’t be able to provide the best service and specialty services.

Reviews

Many review websites show you the price range, usually using dollar signs, so you can get an idea of how much they cost without calling. If you see some place that has four dollar signs behind them, you know they’re out of your price range. You can also go online to social media sites, such as Facebook, to find out about services, prices and any specials or discounts available.

Interviews

You’ll want to visit with at least three hairstylists in the area to ensure that you’ve found a new home away from home. Sit down with them and discuss what options will work best with your skin tone, face shape, and lifestyle. Even if you don’t want to change your style, you can still find out what they think works. Explain to them that you don’t have a lot of money to spend, and they may be able to offer suggestions for less expensive, quality care products and more.

If the salon offers other services, such as color, perms, relaxers and beauty options, you may want to get a price list for them, when you do have a little extra money. You can also ask questions about those services during the interview process.

Selection

Once you’ve interviewed people, you probably have a general idea of who to select. Your stylist should be your friend and confidant, so make sure you trust their opinions and expert advice.
